🍽️1. What Happens in a Cafe

A cafe worker does more than make coffee. The worker greets the customer, listens to the order, checks the size, asks about milk or sugar, takes payment, makes the drink, and gives the drink to the customer.

The customer also has a simple path. First, the customer chooses a drink.

Then the customer gives details, like small or medium, hot or iced, and here or to go. After that, the customer pays and waits near the counter.

Good cafe English is short and clear. The worker does not need long sentences.

The customer needs to feel understood.

2. Basic Coffee Types

Coffee names can look difficult, but many cafe orders have simple ideas. An espresso is a very small, strong coffee.

An americano is espresso with hot water. It tastes lighter than espresso, but it is still black coffee.

A latte is espresso with a lot of warm milk. It is usually smooth and mild.

A cappuccino is espresso with warm milk and more foam on top. It can taste stronger than a latte because it has less milk.

An iced coffee is cold coffee with ice. An iced latte is espresso, cold milk, and ice.

Some customers also ask for decaf coffee. Decaf means coffee with very little caffeine.

3. Helping Customers Choose

Some customers know exactly what they want. Other customers only know the feeling they want.

They may want something not too strong, or something cold and sweet. The worker can help with two simple checks.

First, check temperature: hot or iced. Then check taste: strong, mild, or sweet.

After that, give one simple suggestion. Do not list every drink.

For example, if the customer wants a mild hot drink, suggest a latte. If the customer wants a cold milk drink, suggest an iced latte.

If the customer wants black coffee, suggest an americano.

4. Small Cafe Problems

Small problems happen in cafes. The drink can be wrong.

The milk can be regular milk, but the customer wanted oat milk. The drink can be too hot, too cold, too sweet, or not sweet enough.

The worker should listen first. Then repeat the problem in simple words: "You wanted oat milk, not regular milk."

This shows the customer that the worker understands. Then give a clear next step.

The worker can say, "I am sorry. I can remake it," or "I can add more milk."

A calm answer is usually better than a long explanation.
