Part 1: Object Pronouns
Typing practice
Type the text exactly. Timer starts with your first key.
Text to type: A pronoun is a short word that takes the place of a noun. We use **subject pronouns** before the verb, and **object pronouns** after the verb. | Subject (before the verb) | Object (after the verb) | |---|---| | I | me | | you | you | | he | him | | she | her | | it | it | | we | us | | they | them | **Rule 1: Use an object pronoun after a verb.** - I know **him**. (not *I know he.*) - My mother loves **me**. - These shoes are nice. I want **them**. **Rule 2: Use an object pronoun after a preposition** (with, for, to, at, and others). - I often play with **her**. - This present is for **you**. - Please listen to **us**. **Tip:** First think about who the person is. One boy or man is **him**. One girl or woman is **her**. More than one person or thing is **them**. One thing is **it**. - My uncle is funny. I like **him**. - My aunt lives in a big city. I visit **her** every summer. - I have a new bike. I ride **it** to school.

Typing practice
Type the text exactly. Timer starts with your first key.
Text to type: We use **there is** and **there are** to say that something is in a place. **Rule 1: Use "there is" with one thing. Use "there are" with two or more things.** - **There is** a cat on the sofa. - **There are** two cats on the sofa. - **There's** a clock on the wall. (There's = There is) **Rule 2: Negative sentences use "there isn't" and "there aren't."** We often use **any** in negative sentences. - **There isn't** a TV in my room. - **There aren't** any eggs in the fridge. **Rule 3: For questions, put "is" or "are" before "there."** - **Is there** a station near here? — Yes, **there is**. / No, **there isn't**. - **Are there** any books in your bag? — Yes, **there are**. / No, **there aren't**. **Rule 4: To ask about a number, use "How many + plural noun + are there …?"** - **How many** chairs **are there** in the room? — **There are** six chairs. **Tip:** For short answers, use **there**, not **it** or **they**. - Is there a bus stop on this street? — Yes, **there is**. (not *Yes, it is.*)

Part 3: If Sentences
Typing practice
Type the text exactly. Timer starts with your first key.
Text to type: We use **if** to talk about a condition. A condition is something that may happen. The other part of the sentence tells the result. - **If** it is sunny, we will go to the beach. - Condition: it is sunny - Result: we will go to the beach **Rule 1: In the "if" part, use the present tense, even when you talk about the future.** - **If** it **rains** tomorrow, I will stay home. (not *If it will rain tomorrow …*) - **If** you **are** free, let's play a game. - **If** she **gets** up early, she will catch the first train. **Rule 2: The other part often uses "will," "can," or a request like "please" or "let's."** - If you finish your homework, you **can** watch TV. - If you have a question, **please** ask me. **Rule 3: The "if" part can come first or second.** When it comes first, put a comma after it. When it comes second, you don't need a comma. - **If** you are tired, you can sleep. - You can sleep **if** you are tired.

Part 4: As … As
Typing practice
Type the text exactly. Timer starts with your first key.
Text to type: We use **as + adjective + as** to say that two people or things are the **same** in some way. **Rule 1: Use the basic form of the adjective between "as" and "as."** Don't use the "-er" or "-est" form. - My bag is **as heavy as** your bag. (not *as heavier as*) - This room is **as big as** that room. - Today is **as cold as** yesterday. **Rule 2: You can also use the basic form of an adverb.** - My brother runs **as fast as** my father. - I can sing **as well as** my sister. **Rule 3: "Not as … as" means "less than."** It shows that two things are **not** the same. - My dog is **not as big as** your dog. (Your dog is bigger.) - This test is **not as difficult as** the last test. (The last test was more difficult.) **Tip:** Always use **as** two times. Don't use **than** with as … as. - She is **as tall as** her mother. (not *as tall than*)
